Pilot uses Fireblocks tech, may expand to 1.4M clients by end of summer

Italian banking group Banca Sella has launched an internal pilot to test cryptocurrency custody services, using Fireblocks’ secure infrastructure to handle digital assets such as stablecoins. The program is currently limited to select employees and will run through the end of summer.

According to Bloomberg, the trial aims to evaluate whether Banca Sella should extend this offering to its 1.4 million custody clients, who collectively hold over €66 billion in assets. The initiative reflects the bank’s continued commitment to technological innovation and interest in blockchain integration within traditional finance.

The pilot focuses on the secure storage of digital assets, a sector that’s gaining traction among traditional financial institutions looking to bridge the gap between fiat and crypto ecosystems. If successful, the move could position Banca Sella among the first major European banks to provide stablecoin custody at scale.
