In Brief:
8 ancient wallets from the Satoshi era moved 80,000 BTC—untouched since Bitcoin was under $1.
The BTC, now valued at $8.6 billion, was sent to new wallets using updated address formats.

In a surprising blockchain event, 80,000 Bitcoins from wallets dormant since 2011 have just been moved, totaling more than $8.6 billion at current prices. These wallets, active during the so-called Satoshi era, have remained untouched for over a decade—until now.

According to ChainCatcher, the funds originated from eight long-dormant addresses, two of which individually transferred 10,000 BTC, worth around $1.1 billion each. The timing and scale of the activity have sparked widespread attention and speculation across the crypto community.

Blockchain analytics firm Arkham noted that all eight wallets may be controlled by a single entity, given the similarity in transaction behavior and timing. The BTC was moved to modern wallet formats, but no exchanges or selling activity have been detected so far.

Movements like this are rare and often trigger speculation about early Bitcoin whales, possible wallet recovery, or institutional-grade cold storage reorganizations. Whether the funds will eventually be sold, held, or moved again remains unknown.
